Decorative nautical chart shows the coastline of Western Sahara, between Cape Bojador and Ras Nouadhibou. This coast was since the beginning of the 16th century on extremly important for the Spanish seal fur trade industry.
The map was made by a Dutch cartographer Johannes van Keulen (1654 – 1715), who was working in amsterdam. His most known works are sea atlases Zee-Atlas and Zee-Fakkel (Sea Torch).After Johannes’ death in 1715 his son, grand-son and great-grand son continued publishing sea atlases until 1801.
