8°, XII, 452 pp., contemporary decorative printed wrappers (Very Good, missing blank page I-II, soft folds in the edges, old owner’s note on the title page with a tiny hole in the ink, last pages slightly water-stained and stained with tiny loss of blank paper in margins, old cancelled stamps on the last page and on the inside of the wrappers).
Leopold von Ranke (11795-1886) was a German historian and one of the founders of a modern history. Among others he published books on Serbian history, with a special focus on the Serbian Revolution.
The first edition of the book with reduced text was published in 1857, and included a portrait and a map. This second edition from 1876 is enlarged with approximately 100 more pages of text and is not illustrated.
We could only trace three to four other copies in institutions worldwide. The on-line records sometimes do not distinguish between first and second editions.
